The Vision
There are many retreats throughout the world, each one offering something very special. The Peace Retreat is unique in that it offers an opportunity to step out of the world for a while and into an environment which imposes no programmers, agendas or itineraries. The Peace Retreat requires no working contribution from those who stay, and imposes no expectations. It offers an unconditional, sacred space in which to just let go.
The Peace Retreat is to be both residential and non-residential, offering an experience of profound peace and stillness to all who visit. It will be a place to ‘retreat’ from the normal demands of life, to retreat from the world, in order to pause, breathe, take stock, re-evaluate, rest, recuperate, replenish, re-nourish and resource.
It caters specifically for those whose vocations and lives thrust them to the forefront of the world peace movement, as well as those who actively campaign for a better world or whose work involves them in helping humanity. Whether you are a humanitarian, a writer, a musician, involved in the arts, therapeutic work, healing, teaching, pioneering, leading, visioning, working within the arena of the environment, ecology or sustainability, conscious evolution, or simply working towards the co-creation of a better world, be that in a high profile position or behind the scenes, The Peace Retreat is the ideal place to let go of or let go into utter peace and tranquility.
It offers a sacred space for solace or affords complete immersion into artistic, written or visionary projects, without experiencing the distractions of the practical day-to-day demands of life, and the expectations and needs of others.
The Peace Retreat will be located in an environment of absolute peace and serenity, surrounded by beautiful nature. Far from busy roads and all types of noise pollution, the only sounds you will hear will be the sounds of nature. The power sources used at The Peace Retreat will be mainly ‘off-grid’ utilizing the energy of nature wherever possible.
To cut down on microwave energy and to discourage contact with the outside world, we have a ‘no mobile phone, television or internet’ policy. The idea of the Peace Retreat is to retreat from the stressful demands of a busy life and to give yourself space to just be. The Peace Retreat will offer you an opportunity to relax and rest deeply at a physical, mental and energetic level and to reconnect more fully with that still-point within.
The Peace Retreat is a retreat from all the daily demands of life. This means being able to experience waking in the mornings and knowing there is nothing to do, nowhere to go, no deadlines to meet. There are no duties expected of you during your stay, so if you wish to spend the entire retreat alone, without any sense of expectation to do anything or having to join others, then this is honored. (Silence badges are available, if your choice is to remain in silence).
The Peace Retreat is a place of being, not doing. It is a place to follow your truth, to honor your needs, to listen to your heart and the wisdom of your soul. Whether you choose to remain alone for your entire stay or join in with the community, occasionally or daily, the choice is yours. There are no expectations of you to be or to do anything.
The Peace Retreat is specifically for those who seek peace, stillness, tranquility, gentleness and quietness. It is ideal for those whose lives are dedicated to helping co-create a better world, for therapists, as well as for artists, who wish to have the space to immerse themselves in their work or to complete a body of work. It is the perfect creative space for musicians (there will be a music room with a piano and some acoustic guitars) and writers, who seek uninterrupted time to concentrate on their work. It is also ideal for those whose work in the world is immensely demanding and who need to just rest and be still.
For anyone whose life revolves around giving and supporting others, who need a nurturing space to be replenished and refreshed, held and supported in order to go back into the world to continue to give, this is Retreat to meet those needs.
The Peace Retreat encourages those who visit or stay to be true to themselves, to feel what it is they need and to ask for those needs to be met. The resident community, who run the Retreat, will do all they can to meet any reasonable needs. This is the purpose of the Retreat – to be a place where you can receive, refill, recharge and be held and supported, just as you do for others in your work in the world.
There will be a Community Room where you can connect with others, sit, read or contemplate. The Community Room will be a stunning, bright and uplifting space with beautiful views out of the windows. It will have a big fireplace with a roaring fire to take any chill out of the autumn or winter air.
The Community Room is where our daily meditations are held. We have a morning meditation, before breakfast, and an evening meditation, before supper. Again, these are not compulsory and you can choose to join in if this feels right for you on any given day.
The Retreat will house three individual meditation rooms for those who wish some quiet time alone in meditation. You can request a room for yourself or these spaces can be shared by a few people.
We will also have a large, sound-proofed Studio with an excellent sound system. The Studio is a sunny, light, bright space in which to dance, stretch or practice yoga, Tai Chi or Qigong, etc. It is also a great place to celebrate, or express yourself in whatever way you need – laughing, shouting, moving. The Studio is a place to let go, to release stuck energy and get the life force flowing again!
Also located at the Retreat is a beautiful Angel Sanctuary, in which you can sit and receive transformational Angelic healing and guidance.
There will also be several art studios for those who wish to book such as part of their retreat. This can be discussed and arranged when booking your stay.
For writers, musicians and those planning future projects, lap tops are permitted, of course. However, there will be no internet access available at the Retreat. The local village will have an internet café or a tourist centre, if these are needed.
There will be a daily trip to the shops, so for those who wish to come along for the ride and wander around the local village, the mini bus will accommodate you.
The resident community, who run the retreat, welcome anyone who wishes to help out, who may wish to assist in the kitchen or the gardens for example. This assistance is graciously accepted, as long as there is a genuine need to help, rather than a feeling of obligation to do so.
The menu is mainly vegetarian, with fish being served once a week. Most of the vegetables are grown at the Retreat and all are organic and locally sourced. We will also cater for Vegans and special dietary requirements.
We cook with consciousness, so love and mindfulness (and beautiful harmonious music) are key ingredients in the preparation of food at the Retreat. Meals can be taken in the privacy of your room, if preferred, (and can be delivered to your room, if your choice is not to interact with others during your stay). For those who would like to eat with others, we have a Community Kitchen or wooden tables of varying sizes, outdoors.
You will find an ongoing series of workshops on conscious evolution, the Arts and personal development at the Retreat. You are free to dip in and out of activities which appeal to you during your stay. We try to be spontaneous and to go with the flow!
There are no hard and fast rules. We simply ask you to respect the exquisitely tranquil energy of the retreat, the community and the environment. We have a non-smoking policy indoors and within the immediate vicinity of the grounds – so a substantial walk is required if you need to smoke! There is also a no alcohol policy.
Outdoors you will find extensive grounds, in which there are several fire pits for use, sacred circles in which to sit and meditate, gentle places near water at which to rest, as well as many beautiful walks. Several hammocks are dotted around the grounds as well as yurts, tipis and external wooden structures set up for sacred meditation. We also have several places where you may sleep under the Stars, (alongside a crackling outdoor fire). You will also encounter our re-homed donkeys, resident sheep, cows, chickens and ducks, who love being spoken to and complimented! However, they are greedy and must not be fed!
The fees will cover everything except the art studios and art materials, one-to-one sessions or workshops, which are an additional cost.
